Why Practitioners Choose Babyem

Three things no other
maternity training offers together.

The clinical depth. The structured placement programme. The support that doesn't stop when training ends
1
Clinical Expertise

Taught by someone who shaped the evidence.

Our training team are globally-recognised leaders in newborn education — contributors to Cochrane Reviews, NICE guidelines, published authors. You are not learning from a trainer. You are learning from the people that trainers are trained on.

The Placement Scheme

Real families. Real experience. No other course has this.

The only structured newborn placement programme in UK maternity training. We have worked with Great Ormond Street Hospital, NCT and Twins Trust to connect graduates with families who need support. You are matched, briefed and supported — not sent to find experience alone.

By The End of This Training

What you will be
equipped to do.

1

Support newborns and families with genuine confidence

Feeding, sleep, colic, reflux, allergies, development — across the areas families need most, grounded in current evidence.

2

Read the situation — not just follow a script

Understand the why behind every recommendation. Apply evidence responsively to the individual family, not as a formula.

3

Know when to support and when to refer

Recognise the limits of your role. Hold your knowledge with confidence — and connect families with the right support when needed.

4

Hold an independently accredited OCN credential

OCN Level 3 or 4 — independently regulated, verified by written assessment. A credential that reflects genuine professional depth.

5

Support newborns and families with genuine confidence

Monthly live workshops and expert Q&A included with your enrolment. Professional development continues long after training ends.

6

Practise with professional clarity and calm authority

The knowledge, the credential and the community to support you — from your first family to your fiftieth.

Only at Babyem · England-Based Graduates

The only structured
newborn placement
programme in the
UK.

After you qualify, you can access real placements with real families — matched by the Babyem team, referred by some of the most trusted organisations in UK newborn care. No other maternity training course offers this.

What makes this different

"Babyem is the only maternity training provider in the UK with established partnerships with Great Ormond Street Hospital, NCT and Twins Trust — connecting graduates with families who need real support."

After you qualify, we find your first placements for you — matching you carefully, briefing you fully, and supporting you every step of the way.

Based outside England? The Placement Scheme is available to England-based graduates only. You complete the same OCN-accredited training. Many international graduates go on to work privately or through agencies in their own country, where demand for trained newborn care specialists continues to grow.

I searched for quite a while to find a course, and what won me over with Babyem is how attentive they are…. The course exceeded my expectations and explored all possible topics that I could imagine, all of which was based on scientific research. If you are looking for something that can actually teach you about how to be a Maternity Nurse in depth you will not be disappointed. Thank you Babyem!

How Graduates Practise

This accreditation opens
doors in several directions.

Graduates come from different backgrounds and go on to practise in different ways. Here are the most common.

Maternity Nurse (Newborn Care Specialist)

Private families · agencies · international. Known internationally as a Newborn Care Specialist.

Nanny with Newborn Specialism

Add specialist depth to your existing practice. Placed with newborn families by agencies who recognise the credential.

Night Nanny

Overnight support only — night feeds, settling, establishing gentle routines. A focused role with flexible hours, well suited to practitioners who prefer night-time work.

Postnatal Support Practitioner

Daytime practical and emotional support. A growing role, particularly for practitioners with doula, health visiting or nursery nursing backgrounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answered honestly.

Is the online course as rigorous as the London blended course?
Yes. Both the online and blended programmes lead to the same OCN Level 3 or Level 4 accreditation, independently regulated by Open College Network. The clinical content and assessment standard are the same. The blended programme adds two in-person days in London. The online programme delivers the same depth in a fully flexible, self-paced format, available to practitioners anywhere in the world.
Yes. The online programme is available to practitioners worldwide. The OCN accreditation is a UK independent qualification, valued by private families and agencies internationally. The only element not available to international graduates is the Babyem Newborn Placement Scheme, which is available to graduates based in England only.

The Level 3 programme comprises six core modules assessed at A-level equivalent standard. The Level 4 programme includes the same six core modules plus four additional specialist modules — Culture & Diversity, Baby Temperament, Flat Head Syndrome, and Tongue-Tie — assessed at foundation degree standard. This is a structural difference in module content, not just assessment depth. You choose your level on enrolment, and can upgrade from Level 3 to Level 4 at any time by paying only the price difference. If you are unsure which level is appropriate for you, contact us before enrolling.

After completing the programme content, you receive a study pack and have seven weeks to complete essay-based questions at home. Each question requires you to demonstrate applied clinical understanding of the topics covered during the course. Your work is marked by your allocated tutor and independently verified by Open College Network. Certificates are issued approximately 4–6 weeks after verification. Extensions are available on request.

The programme content typically takes 30–40 hours to work through, depending on your pace. You study entirely at your own schedule — there are no fixed dates, cohort start times or live sessions required. Once you begin your written assessment, you have seven weeks to submit. Extensions are available if needed.

The Placement Scheme is an optional opportunity available exclusively to graduates based in England who hold valid insurance, a current DBS check and a Paediatric First Aid certificate. It connects accredited graduates with families who need supported postnatal care, matched and overseen by the Babyem team. Graduates based outside England are not eligible for the Placement Scheme, but complete the same accredited training and go on to practise in their own country.

Level 3 (£450) and Level 4 (£570) can both be paid in full at checkout. Payment plans are available in three instalments (a small administration fee applies — details shown at checkout). A 14-day money-back guarantee applies: if you enrol and decide within 14 days that the programme is not right for you, contact us for a full refund. Full terms are available on the Babyem website.
