Three things no other
maternity training offers together.

OCN Level 3 & 4 — independently regulated. Blended London and online. For practitioners who want to support newborn families with genuine depth and confidence.

1
Clinical Expertise

Taught by someone who shaped the evidence.

Shel Banks is an IBCLC Lactation Consultant who has contributed to Cochrane reviews, written national clinical guidelines for NICE, and shaped policy for Bliss. You are not learning from a trainer. You are learning from someone who helped write what practitioners are trained on.

Real families. Real experience. No other course has this.

The only structured newborn placement programme in UK maternity training. We have worked with Great Ormond Street Hospital, NCT and Twins Trust to connect graduates with families who need support. You are matched, briefed and supported — not sent to find experience alone.

Why This Course Exists

Families in the early days need to feel held, heard and confident in themselves.

  • The families you'll support are at one of the most tender, overwhelming and significant moments of their lives. They're not looking for someone to take over — they're looking for someone who helps them trust themselves.
  • That takes real knowledge — of babies and of people. Evidence-based practice. Calm authority. Knowing when to step in and when to step back.

This training prepares you to be genuinely present for families — not just technically capable.

The Babyem Approach

"We don't just tell you what to do. We tell you why — based on evidence — and how to apply it to the individual in front of you."

Taught to OCN Level 4 standard. Independently regulated by Open College Network. Assessment is written and verified — because genuine understanding matters.

Monthly CPD, a practitioner community and ongoing expert Q&A — because professional development doesn't stop when training ends.

How Graduates Practise

This accreditation opens
doors in several directions.

Graduates come from different backgrounds and go on to practise in different ways. Here are the most common.

Maternity Nurse (Newborn Care Specialist)

Live-in or daily support for newborn families in the weeks after birth — working privately or through a specialist agency. Known internationally as a Newborn Care Specialist.

Nanny with Newborn Specialism

For nannies working with a family who has a new baby, or wanting to be placed with newborn families. This accreditation adds specialist depth to an existing nanny practice.

Night Nanny

Overnight support only — night feeds, settling, establishing gentle routines. A focused role with flexible hours, well suited to practitioners who prefer night-time work.

Postnatal Support Practitioner

Daytime postnatal support — practical and emotional. A growing role, particularly for practitioners with a background in doula work, health visiting or nursery nursing.

What you will be
equipped to do.

1

Support newborns and families with genuine confidence

Feeding, sleep, colic, reflux, allergies, development — across the areas families need most, grounded in current evidence.

2

Read the situation — not just follow a script

Understand the why behind every recommendation. Apply evidence responsively to the individual family, not as a formula.

3

Know when to support and when to refer

Recognise the limits of your role. Hold your knowledge with confidence — and connect families with the right support when needed.

4

Hold an independently accredited OCN credential

OCN Level 3 or 4 — independently regulated, verified by written assessment. A credential that reflects genuine professional depth.

5

Support newborns and families with genuine confidence

Monthly live workshops and expert Q&A included with your enrolment. Professional development continues long after training ends.

6

Practise with professional clarity and calm authority

The knowledge, the credential and the community to support you — from your first family to your fiftieth.

I searched for quite a while to find a course, and what won me over with Babyem is how attentive they are…. The course exceeded my expectations and explored all possible topics that I could imagine, all of which was based on scientific research. If you are looking for something that can actually teach you about how to be a Maternity Nurse in depth you will not be disappointed. Thank you Babyem!

What approach to newborn care does Babyem teach?
We teach a responsive, evidence-based approach to newborn care.

This means understanding infant physiology, feeding science, development and maternal wellbeing — and applying that knowledge thoughtfully to the individual family in front of you.

You will not be taught rigid scripts. You will be taught how to assess, think critically, and know when to refer.
This accreditation is independently awarded and quality assured by Open College Network (OCN).

OCN is a recognised awarding body. Your written assessment is internally marked and externally verified.

This is an accredited programme, not an attendance-only certificate.
Level 3 requires you to demonstrate applied understanding and clearly explain your reasoning in practice.

Level 4 requires deeper academic analysis, critical evaluation of evidence, and includes additional specialist modules.

All students are taught together during the 2-day course, which is pitched at level 4. You may upgrade from Level 3 to Level 4 at any time by paying the difference.
We recommend prior hands-on baby experience before attending.

This programme is designed for practitioners serious about working professionally with newborn families and committed to developing depth in their practice.
After completing the two in-person London training days, you will submit an essay-based written assessment within 7 weeks.

You may choose to complete your assessment at OCN Level 3 or Level 4.

All submissions are internally marked and externally verified by Open College Network. Tutor support is available throughout.
