I have been a nanny for 8 years and before that worked in nurseries (several years in the baby room) for 5 years. In both of my most recent jobs spanning the past 5 years I have had some experience of newborns since the mothers had another child whilst I was already working for them. I have experience in many parts of newborn care including bottle feeding, basic sleep training and hygiene care. I really enjoyed my studies in Maternity Nursing but have only now had the opportunity to further pursue more hands on experience with newborns and hopefully begin a new chapter of my career focusing on the care of newborns and new mothers. I have also completed the Babyem Gentle Sleep Training Course which has been really helpful in furthering my knowledge of how to help with sleep issues in babies. I am hoping that through this placement scheme I will be able to get some more hands on experience with newborns and combine all the knowledge I have learnt on these courses with all the practical experience I have had looking after children in my career so far. I am also looking forward to working closely with new parents and really experiencing what it is like to work as a maternity nurse.
Education
I learnt a lot about different techniques that could be used to help children to get into a regular sleep routine in a way that is not upsetting or difficult for the child or their parents.
Workplace and coursework based training. I learnt about child development, attachment styles , planning techniques and implemented them in my day to day work as a Nursery Assistant
Experience

I completed standard nanny duties including washing children's clothes and cooking meals, preparing bottles and washing bottles, bathtimes, sleep routines and potty training. I planned and adapted activities to the age, stage and interests of each child.
