Many agencies value practical newborn care experience alongside accreditation. The placement pathway gives eligible Babyem graduates the opportunity to apply their training with families, where suitable placements are available.
The placement pathway is optional and available to eligible Babyem graduates after successful course completion. Placement opportunities are not guaranteed and depend on family availability, location, graduate suitability and Babyem’s approval process.

Complete your OCN Level 3 or Level 4 training and make sure your DBS, public liability insurance and paediatric first aid are in place.
Complete your Babyem directory profile and share your availability, experience and preferences. Families browse the board and contact you directly — and you can apply to family listings yourself.
Where a placement goes ahead, you will usually support the family for an agreed short period. Families may provide feedback or a reference afterwards, but this is not guaranteed by Babyem.

Babyem placements are practical experience opportunities with clear, fixed terms taught to both sides. Daytime placement days carry no fee: the family covers reasonable travel and a meal. Overnight support is £35 per night plus travel, paid directly to the maternity nurse. Maternity nurses on the scheme cannot ask families for anything beyond these scheme rates, and Babyem does not employ either party.
Families are actively encouraged to provide a reference after a placement.
The family and maternity nurse agree the schedule directly and record it on the short Placement Form. Babyem completes the checks for taking part, but does not broker introductions or manage the working arrangement.

For New Parents
The Babyem Graduate Placement Programme gives families direct access to Maternity Nurses who have completed Babyem’s OCN-accredited training programme. A safeguarding and orientation call takes place before any access is granted, so you understand the programme fully before making any decisions.
Our approach is gentle, responsive and evidence-based. Every nurse is trained to support your family in a way that respects your choices and works with your baby, not against them.
We work with families of newborns aged 0-3 months. Travel expenses and food costs are covered as part of the arrangement. In return, families provide a reference for the nurse.
OCN-accredited training, the same standard leading UK agencies recognise.
Every maternity nurse holds a Level 3 or 4 Maternity Nurse Accreditation, carries public liability insurance, an enhanced DBS check, and holds a Paediatric First Aid certificate.

Book your 15-minute welcome and safeguarding call. We'll confirm a few practical and safeguarding details and answer anything you're unsure about. The baby's mother joins the call.
Pay the one-off £15 registration fee. Your access to the available maternity nurses opens — usually the same day — and your family listing can go live.
Browse the maternity nurses currently taking part, review their experience and availability, and contact anyone you'd like to speak with. Maternity nurses can also contact you first.
Agree the dates and practical details together and record them on the short Placement Form — you'll both receive the same confirmation. Afterwards, you'll complete a short reference for your maternity nurse; providing it is part of taking part in the scheme.

The £15 administrative fee is a one-off payment taken after your safeguarding and orientation call. It is not a placement fee and does not cover any arrangement made directly between you and the Maternity Nurse. The fee covers administration, platform access, and the safeguarding orientation call. It is not paid in consideration of any introduction or supply of a worker.

The Babyem newborn placement scheme supports families whose baby is under three months old at the start of the placement. Our maternity nurses specialise in this early newborn period, the weeks when hands-on support matters most and confidence as a new parent is still developing.
Babyem-trained maternity nurses support families across all areas of early newborn care. This includes bathing and changing your newborn, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding guidance, establishing a gentle sleep routine, integrating a new baby into a family with older children, and signposting local services such as Children’s Centres and family support groups. Your maternity nurse is there to support the whole family, not just the baby.
Every maternity nurse on the Babyem placement scheme has completed Babyem’s OCN-accredited training programme, the same standard recognised by leading UK nanny and maternity agencies. Registering is straightforward. Fill in your family’s details using our online form, and our team will be in touch within 2 to 3 days with your short family orientation — who we are, what the programme does and doesn’t cover, and how it all works. After that comes your safeguarding and orientation call with a Babyem team member, the one-off £15 registration, and then you can browse the available maternity nurses and request a free intro call directly.
The introduction call is a chance to ask questions, share your situation, and decide whether to go ahead. There is no obligation to proceed. The call takes place directly between you and the maternity nurse.
