The shape of a placement

  • 2–5 days (or nights) per placement, per family
  • Baby under 3 months at the start
  • A parent is always in the house — never sole charge
  • Not live-in, not 24-hour; days are days, nights are nights
  • Beyond five days = a private, paid arrangement — never unpaid

Money, plainly

  • Daytime days: unpaid — family covers travel and a meal
  • Nights: £35 + travel, agreed in advance, paid direct
  • Travel: agree the amount, book your own, claim it back
  • Never ask a family for more than the scheme rate
  • A paid offer after a placement is yours to accept

Nights

  • Two daytime days before any night
  • Your own room and bed, always — live-out basis
  • Working night: awake and responsive, resting in quiet spells
  • On a run of nights: daily rest agreed in writing before you arrive (benchmark: a four-hour break)
  • No dawn trains before a first night — arrive rested

Agreeing & recording

  • The parent rings you first — nothing committed until after that call
  • Confirm days, hours, travel and rest by email, cc info@babyem.co.uk
  • Never double-book; re-confirm with us before you confirm a start
  • Availability changed? Email us — card updated the same day

Who to contact

Bonding is a priority · empower parents · know when to refer. The family writes your reference at the end — we prompt them, you never have to chase. Babyem is a training provider and facilitator, not an agency or employer.
